Red Lodge, Montana

Why nominate for Citizen of the Year?

Is there someone in this town that has changed your life? Someone who has worked hard for our community and the people who live here? Someone who has worked harder for others than for themselves? You can show that person just how important he or she is by submitting their name for the Red Lodge Citizen of the Year award.

A new award, just added this year, is the Red Lodge Business Person of the Year. This doesn’t need to be a business owner; you can submit anyone who works at any Red Lodge business. The winner may turn out to be a sales clerk, chef, or insurance agent. It might be the mechanic who goes out of the way to make sure your car is taken care of, the waitress who always has a smile for you, or the paint expert who helped you find just the right paint for your bathroom remodel. It isn’t about someone who did one thing, but someone who worked hard all year for their customers. According to the committee, that person should have “actively impacted your life through their business, creating a memorable experience for you — a business professional who has touched your life without even knowing that they have done so.

At the end of this article, we’ve included links to the submission forms and details about the awards ceremony.

  1. I have a framed front page Carbon County News dated October 1, 1987, of me with then Governor Ted Schwinden after I had been named Red Lodge’s ‘Citizen of the Year.’ The awarded plaque is hanging right next to it.

Alvin Tjeltveit was a distinguished hard-working Red Lodge citizen, too. I had the pleasure of serving with him on the then Carbon County Memorial Hospital Board.
